Little Flippers Continuing Education at the US Swim School Association National Conference

The Little Flippers Swim School had the amazing opportunity to participate in the 29th Annual US Swim School Association National Conference (USSSA). The conference was held in Orlando, FL and was attended by 160 swim schools from across the country.

“The US Swim School Association conference is a great place to keep up to date with the latest teaching techniques and research from the best minds in the swimming school community” says our owner Sally Poveromo. Attending such a prestigious conference provides an avenue for continued education for both our owners and directors. The classes available during the conference have a keen focus on the latest trends and advancements in swim and safety.

Our Little Flippers Director, Kelly has been teaching and coaching swimming for over 20 years. Kelly is also a Certified Lifeguarding Instructor for the American Red Cross. As the Director, she enjoys developing our Little Flippers curriculum and training our staff for success. She holds a prestigious position nationally as a Course Director for the Infant Toddler Education Workshop offered by the USSSA. During this year’s conference Kelly was educated on all the advancements in infant and toddler swimming and safety. She can now teach these advancements to instructors at other swim schools throughout the country, but more importantly, will bring all the latest tips and techniques to our Little Flippers Swim School curriculum.

Courses taught throughout the conference covered a variety of topics, offered outstanding guest speakers such as Australian Swimming Legend Laurie Lawrence and gave attendees the chance to network and share ideas and inspiration with other swim schools from around the country.

One of the more impactful sessions for our Operations Director, Chris, was Human Management taught by Mark LeBusque. This class emphasized the importance of not only developing your technical skills, as teachers, but building leadership capabilities and “soft’ skills such as self-awareness, resilience, empathy, vulnerability, verbal and nonverbal communication. Being able to share this profound knowledge as we grow and develop our team at Little Flippers will allow our staff to recognize that every child is an individual and may need a unique approach to feel included, motivated and passionate.

Our mission as a swim school is to offer the community the finest year round aquatic instruction for water safety and, starting at an early age, promote swim as a vehicle for movement education and an active lifestyle. We want Little Flippers to be more than just a swim lessons, we strive to maintain a sparkling clean facility with a welcoming, family oriented environment for all who walk through our doors. Whether you are joining us for swim lessons or a birthday party, we want everyone to feel included and at home at both of our Little Flippers locations (Natick & Winchester).

Following the US Swim School Association National Conference, we are excited to implement all we learned and provide our students and families the best local swim school instruction.
